I know, I know. The Sanyo Xacti camcorder/digicam series keeps getting mixed reviews ((especially the HD ones)), but I really like the Xacti pistole grip design and the company keeps churning out small improvements...

Guess I will keep the MacBook for now...and wait what Apple announces next week. Maybe an iPhone will do instead of an eee notebook in addition of the MacBook. Good rumor roundup about WWDC 2008 here...

This is the last time I'm going to post about this little wonder from Asus. It's still saying 'October' ((probably in limited quantities)) and the prices/specs remain interesting....

I wish it comes in white and not in black. We shall see. It's the 701 that's most interesting if the quoted are correct.
((I have written about this before and I really think this will set the fledging sub-notebook on fire in terms of market share measured against the entire notebook market...))
A first Asus eee review. Two weeks old, but I only stumbled upon it now. News: Late August and a slightly higher base price. 250 $ for the 8 GB flash version is still very, very low. Best of all, they are still thinking about a worldwide release...
Price and Availability
Asus had initially said that the Eee PC would start at $199, but they're thinking now is more like $250 for the 8GB flash drive version and somewhat more for a 16GB version. They're still looking at late August for availability of the device, and it should be offered world-wide. I hope Asus can do a good job in making this device widely available, it's really quite compelling for the price and it will be interesting to see what type of people look to buy this.

PS: Good introductory video of the Asus eee subnotebook from June 2007 in case you had missed that...
Here they are....

1) Blade Runner Ultimate Edition Final Cut (sort of an uber-Ultimate DVD edition 25 anniversary :-)

Apparently comes in a aluminium suitcase later this year. Nice. Shiny. And no Jar-Jar Binx. Director Ridley Scott didn't pull a Lucas on us and hopefully preserved this masterpiece.

2) SGGG (Segagaga ((White Box edition)), a very special Dreamcast game) *

A volunteer, but professional English translation is under way for this excellent Japanese game. ** A good moment in time to finally get the limited edition. I hope mine arrives soon from Japan. (( Edit: Got it July 10, by airmail. Cool )) And an incentive to lose weight in order to be able to wear the included miniature T-shirt. Oh well, maybe next year.
3) And finally, an

Probably a spectacular subnotebook at this bargain price. I just hope the build quality holds up, the battery is replacable easily and it includes Bluetooth.

Edit: Just when I crossed the iPhone 1.0 from the list ((I would like to wait for the iPhone 2.0, mainly because I still hope for included iChat and some other goodies)) Apple Apple rumors is trying to make me steer clear of the Asus eee. This is another one of the those long-running Apple rumors of an Apple sub-notebook, I hope it becomes reality one day... http://www.macrumors.com/2007/07/10/ultra-thin-and-ultra-light-mac-notebook-in-2007/ ))
PS: First gadget runner-up: Nintendo DS Lite. Maybe there's some news on ((better)) DS <---> Wii connectivity at E3 2007 ?

* A quoted explanation ((courtesy of hardcoregaming)) for the non-video game player or PS2/XBox gamer lamer who never touched a niche console ;)...
When I was in first grade, I wrote stories about Sega characters in composition class. My first one was an epic, four-page tale about Alex Kidd. My second was about the penguin from Penguin Land and his quest to save his egg. When I was in second grade, probably in some kind of social studies class, I was given a map of the United States. My homework was to pick a place I wanted to visit, and say why I wanted to go there. I picked San Francisco. For my reason, I wrote "Because Sega is there."
So, I kind of like Sega. A lot.
((Great intro. Where can I sign this petition trip down video-game memory lane ?))
But things have not been great for us Sega fans. After the demise of the Dreamcast in 2001, Sega managed to still pump out some decent titles, like Panzer Dragoon Orta and Shinobi. They've even published some other laudable stuff from other development houses, like Otogi and Condemned. But quality titles like that are the sad minority, what with Shadow the Hedgehog being the epitome of everything wrong with the poor company. Their downward spiral was accelerated back in 2003 when they jumped into bed with Sammy, a company known more for their shitty pachinko machines rather than decent video games (Guilty Gear nonwithstanding.) So now Sega is, more or less, damaged goods.
What man would want you now, Sega?
But it wasn't always like
this. Back in 2001, over in Japan, Sega released a niche Dreamcast game
called Segagaga. It is dubbed a "Sega Simulation", which already sounds
distinctly different from your typical video game. The concept behind
the game isn't too far from reality - Sega is in DEEP trouble, having
lost all but 3% of the world marketplace share to the insidious Dogma
Corporation. In order to save the company, the president initiates the
super secret plan Segagaga, wherein they pull some random kids off the
street, put them in charge of the company, and hope they put the
company back on the track to success. Naturally, you're one of those
kids.

I will choose the EEE and two spares....

The Asus eee looks like my favourite gadget for 2007 so far. Go eee.
Finally, a useful gadget.
(Wishes)
Bluetooth, cheapspare batteries and keep the 199 price tag equivalent in Europe .

The iPhone 1.0 looks nice, but I'm holding out for WiFi and real IM capabilities. iPhone 2.0 or 3.0 for me.
I need iChat Mobile, do you hear me, Apple :) ?
(Don't listen to the evil telcos who don't want to see the iChat icon on these shiny iPhones)
