Ever wished you could, on a Tarzan-like level, communicate with fearsome beasts of the wild to make them do your bidding? Well, for folks who want to know what their dogs are thinking, TakaraTomy has revealed the BowLingual Voice device that is touted to feature a 100-word vocabulary and an LCD display that lets you know just how your pooch is feeling at the moment. Too bad only the Japanese language is supported at the moment, although we're pretty sure it won't take too long before other languages are released for the BowLingual Voice.

Das Schweizer Startup Caleido, bekannt als Herstellerin des Online-Speichers Wuala, fusioniert mit LaCie, einem Hersteller von Peripherie-Geräten, insbesondere externen Speichermedien.

Im kommenden iPhone OS 3.0 könnte jedenfalls schon eine Software-Grundlage verbaut sein ((als Grundlage für ein späteres Kindle-Aequivalent von Apple)):
- In-App Purchasing: Allows developers to sell additional content from within applications. Highlighted uses include magazine subscriptions, eBooks, additional levels and items for games.
Wird noch einige Monate oder eventuell sogar Jahre dauern, aber die Perspektive bleibt weiterhin interessant. Zum gleichen Zeitpunkt hat zufälligerweise Fujitsu ihren farbigen eBook-Reader vorgestellt ((der Seitenwechsel dauert mit knapp 2 Sekunden noch viel zu lange, aber das wird noch...))
PS: Natürlich kam dieses Apple-Tablet ((oder wie es denn immer heissen wird)) nicht heute; es erstaunt immer wieder wie viele blinde Optimisten es gibt obwohl der Event klar auf Software fokussiert war...

Guter einleitender Artikel in der NY Times. Alles über 5 bis 7 Megapixel in Konsumentenkameras ist meiner Meinung überflässig, wenn die Optik und der Rest nicht stimmen...und das tun sie bei den aktuellen Tiefpreisen nicht:
In a sea of specifications, one of the most overlooked is the size, not the number, of pixels on a camera’s sensor. Bigger sensors usually mean bigger pixels, which provides some advantages when it comes to making an image.
The mechanics of this can be understood by thinking of a digital camera sensor as a flat sheet of material pocked with millions (hence “mega”) of cylindrical, cuplike pixels. In other words, picture the digital sensor as a tiny cupcake tin.
Photons (light particles) pass through a camera’s lens and are captured by the cups in the tray. Each cup is either red, green or blue (the three colors that are the building blocks for all other colors). The more photons a cup catches, the brighter that cup’s color. Totally empty cups record black; totally full cups record white.
